In the following interview, Patrick Ruprecht gives us a look behind the scenes and describes how his hobby of paragliding helps him find clear and innovative solutions for meeting the challenges posed by manufacturing and logistics.

Peter: Patrick, you’ve been working in Development & Innovation at ivii for several years and have made an essential contribution to the creation of ivii iriis. It’s clear that you’re passionate about paragliding – how does that influence your work at ivii?
Patrick: Paragliding and developing new technologies have more in common than you might think. Both are all about finding just the right balance. When I’m flying, I always have to think ahead, keep an eye on my surroundings and react quickly and correctly to even the tiniest changes in the air. Being able to recognize changes and react to them quickly is just as important when it comes to developing ivii iriis. It’s the tool companies need for error-free production and logistics processes in the face of skilled labor shortages and ever-increasing quality requirements.
WHAT IVII IRIIS CAN DO
Peter: In your opinion, what makes ivii iriis so special? What problems do we solve for our customers?
Patrick: What makes ivii iriis special is the simplicity of the system. All the complex components – AI, the camera, and image processing – run in the background. Companies don’t need image processing experts to use ivii iriis, which is a big plus since there’s a shortage of skilled labor. When it comes to development, my focus has always been on creating a simple quality assurance system using AI that can be operated intuitively by anyone, regardless of their technical qualifications. The only prerequisite for use is knowing what the perfect product or the optimal work process looks like.
QUALITY ASSURANCE FOR EVERYONE WITH AI
Peter: That sounds like a great relief for businesses. How does it fit into everyday operations?
Patrick: Companies use ivii iriis whenever they need to do quality assurance or make changes to ensure quality standards are met – in manufacturing, for example. Back in the day, you had the experienced foreman checking products and making sure any errors were caught. Today, ivii iriis takes care of that, observing both manual and automated processes, reporting any deviations, and making sure any necessary corrections are done. Especially considering the skilled labor shortage, ivii iriis is a perfect option for fast, uncomplicated and expert quality assurance.
For me, innovation means having the courage to take new paths and to develop technologies that are accessible to and usable by everyone, regardless of their personal background or qualifications.

Peter: What tangible benefits does ivii iriis have for companies?
Patrick: ivii iriis is the answer to demographic changes and customers’ increasing demands for quality.
- Each product can be quality-checked, totally replacing the need for random checks.
- Companies don’t have to rely on hard-to-find experts anymore; new employees without any experience in the field can work without errors from day one.
- Logistics processes from goods-in to goods-out are automatically monitored, documented and adapted if necessary.
- This thorough quality control significantly lowers the number of customer complaints and the cost of errors.
- But my personal favorite thing is that employees have fun using ivii iriis and are able to do their work with less stress.

Peter: Looking back at the development of ivii iriis, what’s something you’re really proud of?
Patrick: I’m proud that we have developed a system designed for non-experts. Our idea was always to allow users to concentrate on their core business while ivii iriis takes care of the technical challenges in the background. As shortages of skilled labor abound, it’s more important than ever to offer solutions that don’t require in-depth technical knowledge. Our customers’ feedback shows that we’ve managed to do just that. I’m very happy that we can use ivii iriis to put AI-powered quality control and quality assurance in the hands of people who don’t have to be tech experts to use it.
